A Parting Letter to the Seniors

It all started three years ago — remember that day in August? We came
to school anxiously anticipating our first year in high school — feeling
small and insignificant, completely lost, but satisfied that we had finally
made it. That was the year we elected Teddy Henter as our President, Duncan
Laird as Vice-President, and Peggy Anderson as Secretary. We were an
active class as Sophomores. We were represented in sports activities with
many of our class members in the intramurals program and two Sophomores,
Pat Chase and Maxine Karst, on the cheerleading squad. That was the year
we elected Peggy Anderson as our Homecoming princess. The year progressed
at a rapid pace. It took awhile but we began to understand what high school
life was like. We even stood on the plaque — just to spite the Seniors. That
was the year that the Class of '69 sponsored the best Sadie Hawkins Dance
on record. Lyna Murphy and Mike Beattie were voted Daisy Mae and LiP
Abner. The year flew by — the Class of '67 graduated —

81

And then we were Juniors . . .

We were finally upperclassmen and, as such, we could help the Seniors
push the Sophomores around. We became more and more involved in
school activities. That year we had four Juniors, Nancy Macquarrie, Pat
Chase. Maxine Karst. and Leslie Affletranger, on the cheerleading squad. We
also elected Jan Hawkins for our Homecoming princess. That year our
class leaders were Mike Senzer, president, Charlie Gallardo, vice-president,
and Gail Goodrich, secretary. Our Junior year was highlighted by the Christ-
mas formal sponsored by the Class of '69. Darlene Daly was voted Queen
and her princesses were Leslie Affletranger, Donna McClain, JoElla Irvin,
and Sandy Serrano. Darlene Daly and Neil Frauenheim were chosen as our
class favorites. The year flew by — the Class of '68 graduated —

And then we became Seniors . . .

Finally on top, we are the Kings. We are the ones who grabbed frantic
Sophomores and had them on their knees polishing the plaque. We are on
top and we let the school know it with the familiar chant:

We're the Class that's really fine —
Senior Class of 69!

Our leader, Jeff Zakel, and his assistants, Bill Hesters, Gail Goodrich,
and Darcy Porter, did an excellent job of keeping our class on the move
with an exciting Senior Activity each month. Our Homecoming representa-
tives this year were Lynne Patton, Queen, Jo Ella Irvin, Princess, and
Michelle Gasteazoro, Princess. The Senior Class had three cheerleaders on
the varsity squad: Maxine Karst, Captain, Nora Quinn, and Leslie Af-
fletranger. The Drill Team, led by Senior Marilyn Hare, won first in march-
ing in the Veterans' Day Parade and provided entertainment during the foot-
ball halftime activities. The Class of '69 cheered the Bulldogs on to the
championship for the first time in many years. The year rushed on with
the Senior Class holding a talent show for the mighty Seniors to display their
talents. The Class also held the Valentine Formal with Helen Braswell,
Queen, reigning over her court: Carmen Hernandez, Leslie Affletranger,
Marilyn Hare, and Jo Ella Irvin.

And now — as time for graduation draws near, we look back and remem-
ber those wonderful days; the friends, the heartbreaks, and the happiness of
the past three years. But this is also the time to look forward, facing the
future with the same anxious anticipation as we felt upon entering BHS
for the first time. Faces and names will fade, but the friendships and mem-
ories we have formed will be lasting.
